Family Matters Update

Jun 26, 2015 -- Posted by : admin

I apologize for the lateness of my weekly update. I usually try to publish mine before Division 3 President Steve Zalesky does just in case he wants to include information about Family Matters in his update.

Anyway, this week I have reviewed each Chapter’s Facebook page to see what family-type activities have been going on this month. I am happy to report that most of the Chapters have had an activity and are planning future ones. Here is a breakdown:

804 – this Chapter hosts ongoing weekly Bingo Night on Wednesdays and the turnout has been awesome. They are in the process of working on their POW/MIA Remembrance Ceremony & Family Picnic coming up in September.

872 – a Family Bowling Night is being held on June 26. I absolutely LOVE this idea and encourage other Chapters to do the same, if possible. I plan to discuss this with my Chapter at the next meeting.

951 – On June 27, a Waffled Donut a la Mode fund-raising event is being held and the last one done on June 20 was a huge success. You can’t go wrong with donuts and ice cream, right?

959 – this Chapter is sponsoring a Free Ice Skating event on June 27 for any deployed returnee who came home after May 27 and their family members, 5 BW/91 MW families of those currently deployed, remote tour families and 91 MW families experiencing a work-related separation on the date of the event.

964 – on May 29, this Chapter sponsored a Relay for Life fund-raising event and will be doing a 12-Hour Relay fundraiser on July 24. There will also be a costume contest for those 16 years and older.

972 – this Chapter hosted their Annual Conference & Concert on May 16.

For those Chapters not mentioned, either I didn’t notice any family-related activities posted on Facebook or the page hadn’t been updated in quite a while. I am really disappointed to see that out of 13 Chapters, only 6 are hosting any family-related activities this summer.

We really need to get our Family Members involved in AFSA! I have offered up some suggestions in past updates and above are some other ideas from other Chapters.

Unfortunately, my schedule is full this summer, but if you need me to meet with your Chapter later this year, let me know. If possible, I will schedule a trip to your area and drag my husband with me – Charlie Dalzell, who serves as Division 3’s Historian.

As always, thanks for EVERYTHING you all do in support of the great organization of AFSA!

Patti Dalzell, Division 3 Family Matters Coordinator
